Thank you so much for posting information about the bone marrow registry! I'm an employee at a blood center in Florida that also partners with the National Marrow Donor Program, am on the registry myself, and have participated in bone marrow sign-up drives. In February 2004, I got to be present when a recipient met her donor for the first time. I still remember the sound of their cries when they got to hug one another. And I am tearing up now just thinking about it. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
For anyone else who may read my comment: Please be sign up to be a donor-or potential donor-of the Five Points of Life: Whole Blood, Apheresis (platelets), Bone Marrow, Umbilical Cord Blood and Organ/Tissue. There really are patients in hospitals who need you. I've met them and their families and have donated blood a/o platelets over 50 times to help keep a safe and adequate blood supply.
Again, thank you Raegan, for your commitment to helping those around you and sharing your experiences to encourage others to step outside their comfort zone and join you.
